What is Nouns?
Nouns are words that name people, animals, things or places.
How many kinds of nouns?
There are four kinds of nouns.
- Proper nouns
- Common nouns
- Abstract nouns
- Collective nouns
- Proper Nouns
Example: • In March, it's snows in Srinagar.
• Hardik will reach Bhatkal on Friday.
2. Common Nouns
Common nouns are the names of places, things, animals or people in general. They refer to a class or kind of people, places, animals, or things. They do not name any particular places, animals, things or people.
Example: • My brother is playing in the park.
• There is a huge plant next to my house.
3. Collective Nouns
Collective nouns are the names given to groups of people, animals and things.
Example: • a bunch of grapes.
• a fleet of ships
Collective nouns are generally used in the singular.
Example: • A bunch of grapes is hanging from the vine.
4. Abstract nouns
Abstract nouns cannot be perceived through the sense organs. We cannot taste, hear, touch, smell or see them. They are used to refer to concepts, qualities, emotions and ideas.
Example: • The dove is a symbol of peace.
